IELTS fee in Pakistan for the computer based test
IDP's Pakistan fee page states that IELTS on computer is now the only test format offered in Pakistan. The British Council booking page also lists only on computer options, although its pricing document still includes a paper row at the same price. In practice, plan for the computer test.
Which version you book depends on your purpose:
- IELTS Academic for most university admissions
- IELTS General Training for Canada's Express Entry and other migration routes
- IELTS for UKVI when a UK visa route asks for a Secure English Language Test (SELT)
- IELTS Life Skills for certain UK visa routes, at the level your route asks for
IELTS for UKVI fee and when you need it
The UK government lists IELTS for UKVI and IELTS Life Skills, from the IELTS SELT Consortium, as approved Secure English Language Tests. A SELT is valid for 2 years and must be awarded within the 2 years before your visa application. If you are planning UK study, read our UK student visa requirements for Pakistan and study in the UK pages, and ask your university whether you need the UKVI version.
IELTS One Skill Retake fee in Pakistan
One Skill Retake lets you resit one section (Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking) instead of the whole test. IDP confirms it has launched in Pakistan, with these rules:
- you must have completed a full IELTS on computer test at a centre that offers it
- you must take the retake within 60 days of your full test
- you can retake only once per full test
- you must book with the same organisation that ran your original test
The fee is the same whichever skill you retake. Your new Test Report Form shows the retaken score with the other three original scores.
Not every organisation accepts it. Australia's Department of Home Affairs accepts IELTS results that include One Skill Retake for eligible visas. Canada's IRCC states that it does not accept IELTS One Skill Retake for Express Entry. Always check with your university or visa authority first.
IELTS booking in Pakistan: steps and payment
Here is how booking works with the British Council:
- Keep a valid passport or CNIC ready. Candidates under 18 need written consent from a parent or guardian.
- Choose your test type, city and date, and register online.
- Pay by interbank transfer (IBFT), cash deposit at Standard Chartered or MCB, a bank draft payable to British Council Pakistan, or a credit card online. Cheques are not accepted, and card payments can differ slightly from the listed price because of exchange rates.
- Make sure payment reaches the British Council within 3 days of registering and at least 3 days before your first exam.
- Wait for the confirmation email with your venue. You can choose a Speaking slot on the main test day or within a week before or after it, if space is available.
With IDP, you can book online or at an IDP branch, and pay by credit card online, in cash at an IDP branch, or by bank transfer. IDP sends a final confirmation 5 to 7 days before the test.
Date changes, cancellations and remarks
| Service | British Council (PKR) | IDP (PKR) |

| Date transfer 5 to 14 days before, IELTS | 19,000 | 19,000 |
| Date transfer 5 to 14 days before, IELTS for UKVI | 19,700 | 19,700 |

Both providers allow free transfers 15 or more days before the test. Between 5 and 14 days, IDP describes the charge as up to 25 percent of the fee, and within 4 days no transfer is allowed. If you cancel 15 or more days before the test, you can claim 75 percent of the fee back. The British Council says you must request a remark within six weeks of your test, and the remark fee is refunded if your score goes up in any section.
Results and validity
The British Council says results for IELTS on computer arrive in 1 to 2 days, and IELTS Life Skills results in up to 9 days. You download an electronic Test Report Form from the Test Taker Portal, where it stays available for two years.
IELTS states that a result shows your English ability for a maximum of two years, and recommends accepting older results only with proof that you have kept up your English. Canada requires results under 2 years old for Express Entry. Australia accepts tests taken in the 3 years before your visa application, depending on the visa subclass, but the test must be taken at a test centre, since fully online tests such as IELTS Online are not accepted. For Australian PR, see how English scores change your total in our Australia PR points calculator guide and on our Australia PR page.
A good score often saves you a second fee. If you want structured preparation for IELTS, One Skill Retake or other tests, talk to a Via Nova counsellor about our English test preparation.
