A UK study visa (officially the Student visa) applied for from Pakistan usually takes 3 weeks to decide, counted from your visa application centre appointment, as of October 2026. You can apply up to 6 months before your course starts. Priority (usually 5 working days, £500 extra) and super priority (usually the next working day, £1,000 extra) exist, but you are only told when you apply whether they are offered.
How long does a UK study visa take from Pakistan?
GOV.UK lists 3 weeks as the usual processing time for a Student visa applied for from outside the UK (page updated 9 September 2026). Three points about that number matter.
- The clock starts at your appointment, not when you pay. UKVI starts processing once you attend your visa application centre appointment to give your fingerprints and photo. Submitting the online form and paying the fee does not start it.
- It counts UK working days. Processing times use the UK working week, Monday to Friday, so UK public holidays can add a few days.
- 3 weeks is usual, not guaranteed. If your application will take longer, GOV.UK says UKVI will contact you within the normal processing time to tell you.
You get a letter or email once a decision has been made. Do not book travel before then: UKVI will not reimburse travel costs if your application is refused or delayed.
What happens between applying online and getting a decision?
The order of events, as of October 2026:
- Get your CAS. Your university issues a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies once you meet its conditions.
- Take your TB test. Pakistan is on the list of countries where you need a TB certificate for a stay of 6 months or more. The certificate is valid for 6 months from the date of your X ray, and you include it with your application. It must come from a Home Office approved clinic.
- Hold your funds for 28 days. The money must sit in the account for at least 28 days in a row, and that period must end within 31 days of the date you apply.
- Apply online on GOV.UK. Pay the £558 visa fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge, and pick a faster service if one is offered.
- Book and attend your appointment. GOV.UK says you must apply for your visa before you can book a visa application centre appointment. At the centre you give your fingerprints and photo.
- Wait for the decision. The usual 3 weeks runs from step 5.
- Set up your UKVI account. Follow the instructions in your decision letter to view your eVisa and link your passport.

Where do Pakistani students give biometrics for a UK visa?
GOV.UK's "Find a visa application centre" page sends applicants in Pakistan to the UK visa pages of VFS Global, the UK's appointment partner there. That is where you book your appointment and choose your centre after applying online. Check the centre list, opening hours and any optional services on that site when you book, because they can change.
Can you avoid the centre? The UK Immigration: ID Check app lets some applicants prove their identity on a phone, but its guidance (updated 20 March 2026) accepts only certain passports, such as those from the EU, Norway and Switzerland, when applying from outside the UK. A Pakistani passport is not on that list, so plan to attend a centre in person.
Is priority or super priority available for a UK study visa from Pakistan?
| Service | Usual decision time | Extra fee (from 8 October 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 3 weeks | None |
| Priority visa service | Within 5 working days | £500 |
| Super priority visa service | By the end of the next working day | £1,000 |
GOV.UK says you can apply for a faster decision on most visas from outside the UK and that you will be told when you apply whether it is available. If you give biometrics at a centre, you check whether your centre offers the service for your visa and select it when you book. We could not confirm from an official page, as of 14 October 2026, whether priority or super priority is currently open for Student visas at the Pakistani centres. Check on the VFS Global site at the time you book.
Know these limits before you pay:
- It is a usual time, not a promise. GOV.UK warns that a decision can take longer, for example if the Home Office needs more information or must check your details with other departments. You will not usually get your money back in that case.
- Refunds are narrow. The Home Office refunds policy allows a priority fee refund only where you completed every step and a straightforward application was not considered within the published time. A refused visa gets no refund.
- Speed does not change the outcome. It gets you an answer sooner, nothing more.
Priority makes most sense when you apply close to your course start date. If you apply early, the standard service is usually enough.
What can slow down a UK study visa decision?
GOV.UK lists these reasons an application may take longer than 3 weeks:
- your application needs further consideration or contains inaccurate information;
- you need to attend an interview;
- you need to provide more documents, such as evidence of funds, or your supporting documents need to be verified;
- more information is needed about your personal circumstances, such as a criminal conviction;
- UKVI is facing high demand or a technical outage.
Three of these matter most for Pakistani students.
A credibility interview. UKVI may call you to check that you are a genuine student. Expect questions about your course, your university, your money and your plans. Our list of UK credibility interview questions shows what is asked. After your appointment, keep your phone on and check your email, including the spam folder.
Document checks. UKVI can verify your bank statement and other documents before deciding, so make sure your bank can confirm them if asked.
Mistakes on the form. A wrong passport number, date or CAS number counts as inaccurate information. Check every line against your passport and CAS before you pay.
When should you apply for a UK study visa from Pakistan?
You can apply up to 6 months before your course starts. Work backwards from the start date on your CAS:
- CAS: you cannot apply without it, so ask your university when it issues them for your intake.
- TB certificate: it lasts 6 months from the X ray, so do not take it too early.
- ATAS, if your course needs one: GOV.UK says it takes at least 30 working days (6 weeks), with no fast track, and can be slower from April to August.
- Funds: 28 consecutive days, ending within 31 days of applying.
- Living cost amounts: for applications made on or after 30 November 2026, the monthly amount rises from £1,529 to £1,570 in London and from £1,171 to £1,203 elsewhere (Statement of Changes HC 584).
Say, as a hypothetical example, your master's starts on 20 September 2027. The earliest you could apply is 20 March 2027. If your CAS arrives in June and your 28 days of funds end in early July, you could apply in July and still leave several weeks for the standard decision, an interview call or a request for documents. Applying in late August leaves little room for delay. Our September 2027 intake timeline sets out each month.
How do you receive your UK study visa: eVisa, BRP or sticker?
- eVisa. If you are successful, you get an eVisa, an online record of your immigration status and conditions.
- No BRP. GOV.UK says all BRPs have now expired and have been replaced by eVisas, so there is no card to collect after you land.
- No sticker. UKCISA confirms that from 15 July 2025, Student applicants are no longer issued a 90 day vignette. LexisNexis reported on 2 July 2026 that the Home Office stopped issuing vignettes completely on 1 July 2026.
- UKVI account. Create your account as your decision letter explains and link the passport you will travel on. GOV.UK says access is usually immediate but can take up to 24 hours. If you get a new passport, update your account before you travel.
In the UK, the same account gives you a share code to prove your status to an employer, as our guide to UK student part time work rules explains.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a UK student visa take from Pakistan in 2026?
GOV.UK gives 3 weeks as the usual decision time for a Student visa applied for from outside the UK (page updated 9 September 2026). It counts UK working days from your visa application centre appointment, not from when you pay. It can take longer if UKVI interviews you, asks for more documents or needs to verify what you sent.
Can I pay for priority on a UK study visa from Pakistan?
Possibly. The priority visa service costs £500 and usually gives a decision within 5 working days. Super priority costs £1,000 and usually gives a decision by the end of the next working day (fees table, 8 October 2026). GOV.UK says you are told when you apply whether a faster service is available, so check on the VFS Global site for your centre when you book.
How early can I apply for a UK student visa before my course?
From outside the UK, the earliest you can apply is 6 months before your course starts. You also need your CAS, a TB certificate less than 6 months old and funds held for 28 consecutive days, ending within 31 days of your application. Applying early leaves room for an interview or a document request.
What should I do if my UK visa decision takes longer than 3 weeks?
Check your email, including spam, in case UKVI has asked for an interview or documents. GOV.UK says you do not need to contact UKVI while your application is within the normal processing time. If it has gone past that time and nobody has contacted you, contact UKVI. Do not book flights yet.
Will I get a BRP card or a visa sticker in my passport?
No. GOV.UK says all BRPs have expired and have been replaced by eVisas. Student applicants stopped receiving a 90 day vignette from 15 July 2025. You view your permission in your UKVI account, linked to the passport you travel on.
