There is no single best country for a study visa from Pakistan. The right choice depends on your budget, your academic record, whether you want to bring family and what you plan to do after graduating. As of October 2026, Germany is the cheapest for tuition, the USA (for STEM graduates), Canada and Australia offer the longest post study work periods, and the UK, Australia and Ireland all limit who can bring family. No country guarantees a visa.
Six study destinations compared
Every figure below comes from the official government or agency page listed in the sources, checked on 8 October 2026. In five of the six countries each university sets its own tuition, so the table describes how fees work rather than giving one number.
| Country | Tuition | Living funds to show | Work while studying | Post study work | Family | 2026 policy note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| USA | Set by each university | Tuition and living costs on your Form I-20 | On campus, up to 20 hours a week in session | OPT, often 12 months, plus 24 months for eligible STEM | F-2 spouse and children allowed; F-2 cannot work | Social media must be set to public |
| UK | Set by each university | £1,171 to £1,529 a month for up to 9 months, plus first year fees | 20 hours a week in term (degree level) | 2 years; 18 months from 1 Jan 2027 | Only PhD, research degrees or government sponsored | Living cost amounts rise on 30 Nov 2026 |
| Canada | Set by each institution | CAD 23,448 a year, plus tuition and travel | 24 hours a week off campus in session | PGWP up to 3 years | Spouse work permit only for master's of 16 months or more, doctoral and some professional degrees | 155,000 new arrivals planned for 2026 |
| Australia | Set by each provider | AUD 29,710 a year, plus first year fees and AUD 2,000 travel | 48 hours a fortnight in session | Usually 2 to 3 years (subclass 485) | Mostly not allowed since 2 Oct 2026 | Processing priority depends on your provider |
| Germany | None at most public universities; €1,500 a semester in Baden-Württemberg (non EU) | €11,904 for one year | 140 full or 280 half days a year | Up to 18 months to find work | Separate family reunion visa | Embassy demand exceeds capacity |
| Ireland | Set by each institution | €10,000 a year, plus fees | 20 hours in term; 40 in holidays | 12 months (level 8); up to 24 months (level 9+) | Typically not permitted | Course must be on the ILEP list |
Which country is easy to get a student visa from Pakistan?
No official source ranks countries by how easy they are, and any consultant who promises an easy or guaranteed visa is not being straight with you. What makes a country easier is your own profile:
- Funds you can document cleanly. The UK wants money held for 28 consecutive days, Germany wants a blocked account, and Australia accepts savings, loans or your parents' income shown in tax assessments.
- A course that follows from your past study. Australia's Genuine Student requirement, for example, asks you to explain why this course and provider make sense for you.
- English scores that clear the bar. Australia, for example, asks for IELTS Academic 6.0 for a degree without an English course attached.
Two pieces of good news on access: the UK's visa brake on Student visas, in force since March 2026, covers Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar and Sudan, not Pakistan. And Pakistan is not on the country lists in the White House fact sheet for the US entry restrictions that took effect on 1 January 2026.
Which country is cheapest for study for Pakistani students?
On tuition, Germany is the clear answer. DAAD says there are generally no tuition fees for bachelor's or most master's courses at state universities, although every student pays a semester contribution of €70 to €430 and Baden-Württemberg charges non EU students €1,500 per semester. Read our full breakdown on how to study in Germany from Pakistan for free.
On the funds you must show for living costs, Ireland asks for €10,000 a year and Germany €11,904. The UK asks for £10,539 outside London or £13,761 in London for 9 months (rising on 30 November 2026). Canada requires CAD 23,448 and Australia AUD 29,710, both on top of tuition. Rupee comparisons depend on the exchange rate on the day. For the full Australian picture, see our guide to the study in Australia cost for Pakistani students.
Which country is best for study and work for Pakistani students?
During your studies, Australia allows 48 hours a fortnight in session, Canada 24 hours a week off campus, and the UK and Ireland 20 hours a week in term. Ireland rises to 40 hours a week from June to September and from 15 December to 15 January. Germany counts days: 140 full or 280 half days a year, or up to 20 hours a week. In the USA, F-1 students can work on campus up to 20 hours a week in session, and off campus work is limited.
After graduating, the options differ more:
- USA: Optional Practical Training is often 12 months, and eligible STEM graduates can add a 24 month extension.
- Canada: a post graduation work permit of up to 3 years. Master's graduates from programmes of at least 8 months can get 3 years, and most applicants now need language test results.
- Australia: the Post Higher Education Work stream usually gives 2 to 3 years, for applicants aged 35 or under.
- UK: 2 years if you apply by 31 December 2026, then 18 months. PhD graduates get 3 years.
- Germany: up to 18 months to find skilled work, during which you can take any job.
- Ireland: 12 months for a level 8 award. Level 9 and above graduates get 12 months, renewable for 12 more if they show they have been looking for graduate work.
Policy climate in 2026, country by country
USA. The US Embassy in Pakistan asks F visa applicants to set all social media accounts to public, and to book interviews in their country of residence or nationality. See our USA student visa requirements for Pakistan for the full process.
UK. Dependants are limited to research degree and government sponsored students, the Graduate visa shortens from 1 January 2027, and living cost amounts rise from 30 November 2026. Our UK student visa requirements guide covers each step.
Canada. IRCC plans up to 408,000 study permits in 2026, including 155,000 for new arrivals. Since 1 January 2026, master's and doctoral students at public designated learning institutions no longer need a provincial attestation letter. Paid Canadian immigration advice must come from a licensed consultant (RCIC), a Canadian lawyer or a Quebec notary. Via Nova works with a licensed RCIC, and you can check any consultant on the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants public register.
Australia. From 2 October 2026 most applicants cannot include family and most must apply from outside Australia. Processing order depends on how close your university is to its share of the 295,000 places, though Home Affairs says this is not a cap and does not decide the outcome.
Germany. The Embassy in Islamabad and the Consulate General in Karachi take student applications through an online portal and say demand still exceeds capacity, so apply as soon as you hold an admission letter.
Ireland. The €10,000 annual funds rule now applies to visa required and visa exempt students alike, and your course must be on the Interim List of Eligible Programmes.

Frequently asked questions
Which country is easy to get a student visa from Pakistan?
None is officially easier. The best chance comes from a country where your profile is strongest: funds you can document cleanly, a course that follows from your previous study, and English scores above the minimum. Pakistan is not covered by the UK's 2026 visa brake or listed in the White House fact sheet on US entry restrictions, but every application is still judged on its merits.
Which country is cheapest for study for Pakistani students?
Germany, for tuition. Most public universities charge no tuition for bachelor's and most master's courses, though you pay a semester contribution of €70 to €430 and need €11,904 in a blocked account for 2026. Baden-Württemberg charges non EU students €1,500 per semester. Among English speaking countries, Ireland's €10,000 living funds requirement is the lowest, but tuition there is set by each institution.
Which country is best for study and work for Pakistani students?
For work after graduating, Canada (post graduation work permit up to 3 years), Australia (usually 2 to 3 years) and the USA (12 months of OPT plus 24 months for eligible STEM graduates) offer the longest periods. During studies, Australia allows 48 hours a fortnight and Canada 24 hours a week off campus. The UK Graduate visa drops to 18 months from 2027.
Which country allows me to take my spouse on a student visa?
The USA allows F-2 spouses and children, though F-2 spouses cannot work. Canada gives spouses an open work permit only if you study a master's of 16 months or more, a doctorate or certain professional degrees. The UK limits dependants to research degree and government sponsored students, Australia mostly stopped family applications on 2 October 2026, and Ireland typically does not allow family.
Is Canada still a good option for Pakistani students after the cap?
It can be, depending on your level of study. IRCC plans 155,000 new student arrivals in 2026, and master's and doctoral students at public institutions no longer need a provincial attestation letter from 1 January 2026. You must now show CAD 23,448 for living costs plus tuition and travel. Get paid advice only from a licensed RCIC, lawyer or Quebec notary.
