Yes, Pakistanis need a visa for Thailand, and there is no visa on arrival or visa free entry for Pakistani passports. For a holiday or family visit you apply online for a Tourist Visa (TR) at thaievisa.go.th, Thailand's official e-Visa site. Your application goes to the Royal Thai Embassy in Islamabad or the Consulate General in Karachi, and takes about 14 working days once the fee is paid.

Do Pakistanis need a visa for Thailand?

Yes. Thailand changed its entry rules on 15 September 2026. The old 60 day visa exemption ended, a new 30 day exemption now applies to 60 countries and territories, and visa on arrival is limited to Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia. Pakistan is in none of these groups, so you need a visa before you fly.

Thailand also has no shortcut for Pakistanis who hold US, UK or Schengen visas. Holding one can strengthen your travel history, but you still apply for a Thai visa in the normal way.

Which Thai visa should Pakistanis apply for?

For a short trip, the Tourist Visa (TR) is the right one. The e-Visa portal lists these purposes under it:

  • tourism and leisure;
  • visiting family who live in Thailand, for less than 60 days;
  • medical treatment, for less than 60 days;
  • recreation or training such as scuba diving, Muay Thai boxing, Thai massage or cooking courses;
  • meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions supported by Thailand's convention bureau.

Business trips, study and work fall under separate non immigrant visas. If you want a long stay while working remotely for clients abroad, read our guide to the Thailand DTV visa for Pakistanis, a 5 year visa with stays of up to 180 days.

How to apply for the Thailand e-Visa from Pakistan

The Royal Thai Embassy in Islamabad set out the process in March 2025:

  1. Go to thaievisa.go.th and create an account. One account can hold up to 10 applications at a time, so you can apply for your family together.
  2. Choose the Tourist Visa and the mission for your location: the Embassy in Islamabad or the Consulate General in Karachi.
  3. Upload your documents, including your passport biodata page and a photo taken within the last 6 months, in JPG format, up to 3 MB.
  4. Pay the fee offline. In Islamabad, take your application confirmation and cash to the embassy's Visa Gate, from 9:30 am to 1 pm or 2 pm to 3:30 pm on working days. Karachi applicants should follow the Consulate General's own payment instructions.
  5. Track your status in your account. You must stay physically in Pakistan until the decision.
  6. Print the e-Visa that arrives by email. You must show the printed copy at check in and to Thai immigration. Mobile or electronic copies are not accepted.

The embassy's advice is plain: the system is fully online, anyone can apply without an agent, and you should not pay extra money to anyone claiming connections. Use thaievisa.go.th only, and avoid look alike sites that charge for the same form.

How much is the Thailand visa fee in Pakistan?

The Royal Thai Embassy in Islamabad publishes two different fee notices, so check before you pay:

Embassy noticeSingle entry, 3 month validityMultiple entry, 6 month validity
Tourist visa sheet, updated 17 June 2023PKR 13,000PKR 65,000
General fee table, effective 22 April 2019, last updated 30 November 2022PKR 5,000PKR 25,000

The newer sheet, at PKR 13,000 for a single entry visa, is the safer figure to plan around as of October 2026. Fees are paid in cash and are not refunded under any circumstances, even if you withdraw your application.

Thailand tourist visa requirements for Pakistanis: document checklist

The e-Visa portal tells applicants to check the mission's own list too. This table combines the portal's tourist visa list with the Islamabad embassy's tourist visa sheet.

DocumentNotes
Passport biodata pageCopies of the data page and any page with visas
PhotoTaken within the last 6 months
Proof of current location in PakistanFor example a rental agreement, utility bill or Pakistan immigration stamps. Applications without it are rejected
CNICTwo copies, per the embassy sheet
Covering letterYour name, passport number, purpose, travel dates and other key details
Employer or business letterYour position, no objection to the trip and your leave dates, plus the company registration for private firms
Travel bookingFlight booking confirmation. The embassy sheet asks for a confirmed air ticket
AccommodationHotel bookings, or an invitation letter from family or friends in Thailand
Financial evidenceAt least 20,000 THB, for example 3 months of bank statements or a sponsorship letter. The embassy sheet asks for an original statement covering a year with a bank letter

For a multiple entry tourist visa, the embassy sheet asks for a balance above PKR 650,000 for 6 consecutive months. Our guide to bank statements for a visit visa shows how to present a clean record. Check the rupee value of 20,000 baht on the day you download your statement, and keep a clear margin above it.

How long can you stay in Thailand on a tourist visa?

  • Stay: up to 60 days per entry, as Thai missions state for the Tourist Visa.
  • Single entry validity: 3 months from issue, so you must enter within that window.
  • Multiple entry validity: 6 months, with up to 60 days for each entry.

Any request to stay longer is decided by the Thai Immigration Bureau inside Thailand, so do not plan a trip that depends on an extension.

What is the Thailand Digital Arrival Card?

The Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) is the online arrival form run by Thailand's Immigration Bureau at tdac.immigration.go.th. Its notice says all passengers must complete it and that foreigners should submit their details 3 days in advance of arrival. The official site carries the words "No Fees Required" in its title. Thai authorities have repeatedly warned travellers about copycat TDAC sites that charge a fee, so never pay anyone to fill it in.

Can you work in Thailand on a tourist visa?

No. The TDAC notice states that foreigners may not work unless they hold a work permit, and the tourist visa covers only the purposes listed above. Via Nova does not arrange jobs, job offers or work visas. The DTV is also not a Thai work visa: it suits people who already earn from employers or clients outside Thailand.

Why are Thailand visas refused for Pakistanis?

The embassy and the portal give these warnings:

  • Fake documents. The Islamabad embassy says that if any document is fake, especially an airline ticket or hotel booking, the application is rejected immediately and the applicant or travel agent may be blacklisted.
  • No proof of current location. Applications without valid proof that you are in Pakistan are rejected.
  • Applying from outside Pakistan. You must stay in the country for the whole process.
  • Thin finances. Statements below 20,000 baht, or money that appears suddenly with no source, weaken a file.
  • Incomplete applications. The embassy says it is not responsible for incomplete applications submitted through the e-Visa system, whoever files them.

The portal adds that the embassy may ask for an interview or more documents, and that applying does not guarantee a visa. Read visit visa refusal reasons for Pakistanis before you apply again.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Thailand visa fee for Pakistani citizens?

The Royal Thai Embassy in Islamabad's tourist visa sheet, updated 17 June 2023, lists PKR 13,000 for a single entry tourist visa and PKR 65,000 for multiple entry. An older embassy fee table still shows PKR 5,000 and PKR 25,000, so confirm before paying. In Islamabad the fee is paid in cash at the Visa Gate and is not refundable.

How long does a Thailand e-Visa take from Pakistan?

The Royal Thai Embassy in Islamabad estimates about 14 working days after the visa fee has been received and acknowledged. You must stay in Pakistan during processing. The approved e-Visa arrives by email, and you must print it, because mobile or electronic copies are not accepted at check in or by Thai immigration.

How much bank balance is required for a Thailand tourist visa?

The official e-Visa portal asks for financial evidence of at least 20,000 THB, such as bank statements for the last 3 months or a sponsorship letter. The Islamabad embassy's sheet asks for an original statement covering a year, and a balance above PKR 650,000 for 6 months for a multiple entry visa. Keep the account in your own name.

Can Pakistanis get a Thailand visa on arrival?

No. Since 15 September 2026, Thailand's visa on arrival covers only Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia, and Pakistan is not on the 30 day visa exemption list either. You must get a Tourist Visa through thaievisa.go.th before you fly, and complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card before arrival.

Is the Thailand Digital Arrival Card required for Pakistanis?

Yes. Thailand's Immigration Bureau says all passengers must complete the TDAC, and that foreigners should submit it 3 days in advance of arrival at tdac.immigration.go.th. It costs nothing on the official site. Websites that ask for payment are not official, so type the address yourself.
