There is no single bank balance that guarantees a visit visa from Pakistan. The UK, USA, Canada and Australia publish no fixed minimum: they check whether your money fits the trip, your income and your commitments. Some Schengen countries set daily amounts, such as €55 a day for the Netherlands. Where official checklists name a period, it is three to six months, and large recent deposits must be explained.
How much bank balance do you need for a visit visa?
Officers ask three questions about your money:
- Is it enough for this trip, including the return ticket, accommodation and daily costs?
- Does the balance make sense for your job, salary or business?
- Is the money really yours, or your sponsor's, and can you show where it came from?
A modest balance that matches a steady salary often reads better than a large one that appeared last month. A visit visa never allows you to work, so you must be able to pay for the whole trip without earning abroad.
What does each country ask for?
This summary reflects official pages checked in October 2026.
| Destination | Fixed minimum? | Statement period in official guidance |
|---|---|---|
| UK | No. Funds must cover all reasonable costs of the visit | No set period. Statements or bank letters older than one year are less useful |
| USA | No amount; you must show evidence of funds | None set |
| Canada | No. Depends on how long you stay and whether you stay in a hotel or with family | At least six months of account details recommended |
| Schengen | Set by each country, for example €55 a day for the Netherlands | Six months at the German and Italian missions in Pakistan |
| Australia | No. You must have enough money for your stay | Itemised statements for a three month period |
| UAE (Dubai) | Only for the five year multiple entry tourist visa: $4,000 or equivalent | Six months for that visa |
UK
Appendix V: Visitor (paragraph V 4.2(e)) says you must have sufficient funds to cover all reasonable costs of your visit without working or claiming public funds, including your return ticket and any dependants. The money must sit in a regulated bank that UKVI can verify and that keeps electronic records.
The caseworker guidance adds detail. Officers must take into account your commitments at home, such as rent and family you support, and your income or savings minus those commitments must cover the trip. GOV.UK's supporting documents guide asks for bank statements that detail the origin of the funds held, plus proof of earnings such as an employer letter. Our UK visit visa guide covers the full application.
USA
USTravelDocs Pakistan lists evidence of funds to cover your expenses among the four things a B1/B2 applicant must show, with a temporary purpose, a limited stay and ties that ensure your return. It gives no amount or statement period, and says supporting documents are only one of many factors. US regulations (22 CFR 41.31) likewise ask only for adequate financial arrangements. See our USA visit visa guide.
Canada
IRCC says you must have enough money for your stay, and the amount depends on how long you will stay and whether you stay in a hotel or with friends or relatives. Its application page recommends a statement showing the bank's contact details, your name and address, and at least six months of account details including balances, plus an employer letter dated within three months stating your salary. Schengen countries
The Visa Code (Article 21(5)) says means of subsistence are assessed against reference amounts set by each member state, multiplied by the days of your stay. Proof of sponsorship or private accommodation can also count. Two examples, checked in October 2026:
- Netherlands: at least €55 for each day of the trip, or a sponsor in the Netherlands who signs the official proof of sponsorship form.
- France: €120 a day without a hotel booking, €65 a day with a hotel booking, or €32.50 a day if your host provides a welcome certificate.
The German Missions in Pakistan ask tourist and family visitors for six months of bank statements and three months of salary slips, and accept property or investment documents as extra evidence. The Italian Embassy in Islamabad's June 2026 business visa checklist asks for six months of statements signed and stamped by the bank, and says fixed term deposit accounts are not accepted. Our Schengen visa guide explains which country to apply to.
Australia
Home Affairs says you must have, or have access to, enough money to support yourself. Suggested proof includes itemised personal bank statements for a three month period, pay slips, audited accounts, tax records and term deposits. See our Australia visit visa guide.
UAE
GDRFA Dubai's single entry tourist visa is sponsored by a tourism company, and its published requirements for Pakistanis list a photo, passport copy and CNIC, not a bank statement. The five year multiple entry tourist visa is different: it needs a six month bank statement showing a balance of $4,000 or the equivalent over the six months before you apply. Our Dubai visit visa guide covers both.
Can a sponsor's bank statement be used?
Yes, in every country here, as long as the support is real and documented.
- UK: a third party can pay only if they have a genuine personal or professional relationship with you, are not breaching immigration law, and can and will support you for the whole stay. Officers check that the sponsor can also support themselves and their own dependants.
- Schengen: a host in Germany can sign a formal obligation letter (Verpflichtungserklärung) at the local foreigners office. In the Netherlands the host signs a proof of sponsorship form.
- Canada and Australia: a Canadian invitation should say how you will pay for things, and Australia asks for proof of funds from a relative or friend who pays.
Officers still look at your own ties to Pakistan. Our guide to the invitation letter for a visit visa covers what the host should send.
Why do sudden deposits lead to refusals?
UK guidance tells officers that if most of the funds have not been in your account for long, they may check where the money came from. If you do not declare third party money and cannot show it is yours, it is not counted.
Canadian officers think the same way. In a decision reviewed by the Federal Court in November 2025 (2025 FC 1790), the officer's notes cited low earlier balances and lump sum deposits, and concluded the accounts appeared inflated for the visa application.
Moving borrowed money into your account to look richer, sometimes called funds parking, gets strong applicants refused. It can also be treated as deception, which carries a 10 year UK ban and a five year Canadian ban. If a large deposit is genuine, such as a property sale, a bonus or a family gift, keep the paper trail: the sale deed, the transfer record, a letter from the person who sent it.
Do you need FBR tax returns and salary slips?
Often, yes, because they show where your balance comes from. The Italian Embassy in Islamabad's checklist (June 2026) asks for an NTN certificate and FBR confirmation of tax return filing for the two fiscal years before you apply, and income tax returns for three years from employees. The German Missions ask for three months of salary slips. Australia lists tax records and pay slips.
What matters is that everything agrees: the income on your form, your FBR returns, your salary slips and your statement credits. UK guidance tells officers to look for exactly this match.
Is a bank maintenance letter enough?
Usually not on its own. A maintenance letter or balance certificate from a Pakistani bank shows a balance on one date, while official checklists ask for statements that show transactions over months: itemised statements for Australia, six months of stamped statements for Italy, six months of account details for Canada. Use the letter alongside your statements, not instead of them, and keep it recent.

Frequently asked questions
How much bank balance is required for a UK visit visa from Pakistan?
UKVI sets no minimum. Its caseworker guidance, updated 8 October 2026, says there is no set level of funds. You must show enough to cover all reasonable costs of the trip, including your return ticket, after your regular commitments at home such as rent and dependants. Statements should show where the money came from, and your balance should make sense for your income.
How many months of bank statement are required for a Schengen visa from Pakistan?
It depends on the country. As of October 2026, the German Missions in Pakistan ask tourist and family visitors for statements of the past six months, and the Italian Embassy in Islamabad asks for six months signed and stamped by the bank. Always check the checklist of the country you are applying to, since each sets its own list.
Can I show my father's bank statement for a visit visa?
Yes, if he is genuinely paying for your trip. Show his statements, proof of your relationship such as a NADRA FRC or birth certificate, and a signed letter confirming he will cover your costs. Officers still look at your own situation, such as your studies or job, so his funds support your ties but do not replace them.
Will a sudden deposit get my visit visa refused?
A large recent deposit is not banned, but an unexplained one is a common reason for refusal. UK guidance tells officers to check the origin of money that has not been held for long, and Canadian officers have refused applicants whose accounts looked inflated. Explain any large deposit with documents, such as a sale deed or transfer record.
Is a bank maintenance letter enough for a visit visa?
Usually not. A maintenance letter shows a balance on one date, while official checklists ask for statements showing months of transactions: six months for Germany, Italy and Canada, three months for Australia. Submit the letter with your statements if it helps, and keep both recent.
