Yes, you can get a study visa straight after FSc, ICS, ICom or FA, but the route depends on the country. As of October 2026, US and Canadian institutions accept the Pakistani Intermediate for bachelor's entry. Many UK, Australian and Irish universities want a foundation year first unless your marks are high. Germany needs a year of university in Pakistan or a Studienkolleg. A levels open more direct entry.

Can you get a study visa after FSc?

Yes. FSc, ICS, ICom, FA and A levels all complete 12 years of school. Universities abroad treat them differently, so there are three kinds of route:

  1. Direct entry to year 1 of a bachelor's.
  2. A foundation year or pathway, usually one year, then year 1 of the degree.
  3. A two step route, such as a US community college, a Canadian college diploma, or one year of university in Pakistan before Germany.

Your stream matters too. Pre engineering and pre medical students have the widest choice of science and engineering degrees. ICom students usually go into business, and FA students into humanities and social sciences.

Which route fits FSc and A levels in each country?

Every example below comes from the university's or agency's own page, checked on 14 October 2026.

How do you get a USA study visa after FSc?

You apply to US universities during your final year of FSc, with your Matric and Part I results, predicted or college marks for Part II, essays and an English test. Our guide to a bachelor's in the USA after FSc covers the SAT, the Common App and Fall 2027 deadlines.

The lower cost alternative is a community college. EducationUSA describes the "2+2" route: two years at a community college, then two years at a university to finish the bachelor's. Two examples:

  • San Diego City College asks international applicants for the equivalent of a US high school diploma with at least a 2.0 GPA, plus TOEFL iBT 61, IELTS 5.5 or Duolingo 95.
  • Green River College in Washington says applicants must be 16 by move in day, and asks for proof of funds of $23,475 or more for the year.

Once admitted, you receive a Form I-20 and apply for an F1 visa in Islamabad or Karachi.

Can you study in the UK straight after FSc?

At some universities, yes, with high marks. Others insist on a foundation year. Their Pakistan pages show the range:

UniversityHSSC direct entryFoundation route
Aberystwyth70% overall, including 70% in required subjects30 week foundation from 55%, 15 week from 65%
Aberdeen75% average, plus 75% in HSSC EnglishInternational Study Centre foundation year
Stirling75% overallAsk the university
LoughboroughNot acceptedA suitable foundation year required
WarwickNot acceptedInternational Foundation Programme required
SheffieldNot accepted without a foundationAn approved foundation programme

With A levels, Loughborough, Warwick and Sheffield all consider direct entry, and Aberystwyth typically asks for 104 to 128 UCAS points. Note that Liverpool John Moores University says it is not accepting applications from Pakistan for 2026/27.

Two visa points matter. A foundation year is below degree level, so GOV.UK requires a Secure English Language Test at B1 for it, such as IELTS for UKVI or PTE Academic UKVI. And some universities limit gaps: Aberystwyth expects your last study to have ended within 2 years of the course start.

What about Canada after FSc?

Canadian institutions often accept HSSC for direct entry, each with its own minimum:

  • University of Northern British Columbia: its Pakistan requirements sheet asks for at least 60% in English, three academic subjects and an elective. For A levels it asks for two A levels and three O levels at grade C or higher.
  • University of Alberta: can give early admission on your Intermediate Part I results and Grade 12 results so far, with Part II for final admission.
  • Centennial College, a public college in Ontario, lists the Intermediate or HSSC as the minimum credential, plus each programme's own course and grade requirements.

Students under 17 must travel with a parent or have a custodian in Canada. IRCC says a custodian is optional from 17, though an officer can ask for one. Personalised Canadian immigration advice is given through Via Nova's licensed RCIC partner, a regulated Canadian immigration consultant.

Is a foundation year needed for Australia?

Often, yes, with HSSC:

  • Adelaide University says the Pakistani HSSC is not accepted for direct entry. Its pathway college, Kaplan International College Adelaide, takes HSSC students into Foundation Studies with a 55% average in 3 relevant subjects, or into an extended degree transfer programme with 65%.
  • UTS asks Pakistani applicants for at least one full time year of a four year bachelor's. UTS College offers a foundation from 50% (second division) and diplomas from 60% (first division).

A levels are accepted directly at Adelaide, using a points scale across your best three subjects. If you are under 18, Home Affairs requires adequate welfare arrangements for your stay, with your parents' consent.

Germany and Ireland after FSc

Germany. DAAD Pakistan is clear: an HSSC alone does not give entry to a German bachelor's. You can complete one year of undergraduate study in Pakistan and then apply in the same field, or attend a Studienkolleg, a preparatory course in German, and pass its exam. DAAD's Studienkolleg guidance asks for German at about B1 level and an admission test, usually in German and maths. The DAAD admission database links your stream to subject areas: pre engineering and pre medical lead to medicine, natural sciences and technology, commerce to social sciences and economics, and humanities to humanities. It also says admission is not possible with less than 50%. With A levels, DAAD asks for three subjects at grade C or better, and AS levels no longer count.

Ireland. UCD accepts HSSC students after two years of a bachelor's in Pakistan, or through its International Foundation Year. University of Galway asks for one of its recognised foundation programmes, and Trinity College Dublin sends most applicants other than A level, IB and US diploma holders through its foundation programme. Galway and Trinity consider A level students for direct entry.

Do you need IBCC equivalence?

The Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) issues equivalence certificates that convert O and A levels and other foreign qualifications into Matric and Intermediate equivalents. IBCC treats A levels as equivalent to HSSC once you have the SSC level qualification.

You need equivalence mainly for Pakistani universities, so it matters if you keep a local university as a backup. As of October 2026, the fee is Rs 6,000 per certificate for foreign qualifications and Rs 4,000 for local ones, with an urgent O and A level service at Rs 12,000. You can apply by walk in, courier, or online for photocopies. IBCC attestation of your Matric and Intermediate certificates is a separate service, covered in our guide to HEC and IBCC attestation.

Which route suits your budget?

A foundation year or a two step route adds time, and every extra year adds living costs:

  • Germany charges no tuition at most public universities, but your route starts with German language study or a year of university at home.
  • US community colleges cost less than most universities. Green River's estimated total for 2026/27 is $23,475 for a 9 month year.
  • The UK, Australia and Ireland each require living funds on top of fees: £1,171 a month outside London for up to 9 months, AUD 29,710 a year, and €10,000 a year respectively, as of October 2026.

Our comparison of the cheapest countries to study abroad from Pakistan sets these out side by side.

Frequently asked questions

Can I study abroad after FSc without a foundation year?

Yes, in the USA and Canada, and at some UK universities with high marks. Aberystwyth accepts HSSC at 70% overall and Aberdeen and Stirling at 75%. Loughborough, Warwick and Sheffield require a foundation year for HSSC students. In Australia and Ireland a foundation is common, and Germany needs a year of university at home or a Studienkolleg.

Is a foundation year worth it after FSc?

It can be, if your marks fall short of direct entry or you want a university that does not accept HSSC alone. It adds a year of fees and living costs. In the UK it also needs a Secure English Language Test at B1. Compare it with direct entry elsewhere before deciding.

Can I study in Germany after FSc?

Not directly. DAAD Pakistan says an HSSC holder must complete one year of undergraduate study in Pakistan and then apply in the same field, or attend a Studienkolleg and pass its exam. Studienkollegs teach in German and ask for about B1 German. With three suitable A levels at grade C or better, direct entry is possible.

Do I need IBCC equivalence to study abroad?

Usually not for foreign universities, which assess your certificates themselves. IBCC equivalence is mainly for Pakistani universities and jobs, so O and A level students often get it as a backup. As of October 2026, it costs Rs 6,000 per certificate for foreign qualifications. IBCC attestation is a separate service.

What is the minimum age for a study visa after FSc?

There is no single age. The UK Student visa is open from 16, with parental consent at 16 and 17. Australia requires welfare arrangements for students under 18, Canada requires a custodian for students under 17, and Green River College in the USA admits students from 16.
