For the winter semester 2027/28, which begins in October 2027 at most universities, deadlines for non EU applicants usually fall between 15 January and 15 July 2027. The well known 15 July date is common, but some master's programmes close much earlier, on 15 January or 1 March. Pakistani students should apply between November 2026 and March 2027 to leave enough time for the visa.
What are the winter semester 2027 application deadlines?
Each university sets its own deadline, often programme by programme. These examples are as listed on each university's own page on 14 October 2026.
| University and programme | Deadline for the winter semester 2027/28 |
|---|---|
| University of Stuttgart, MSc Information Technology (INFOTECH) | Application window 15 November 2026 to 15 January 2027. Late applications are not accepted |
| RWTH Aachen, MSc Construction Robotics | 1 March 2027 for non EU applicants (15 July for EU applicants), unless RWTH states otherwise |
| Technical University of Munich, MSc Physics programmes | 1 January to 31 May 2027 for Applied and Engineering Physics, 1 April to 31 May for the others. Apply by 15 January for a decision in mid March |
| University of Mannheim, master's programmes | 1 April 2027 to 15 May, 31 May or 15 July 2027, depending on the programme. The Mannheim Master in Management closes on 15 May |
Stuttgart, RWTH and TUM list day and month only, so these are the next dates in the cycle. Mannheim calls its intake the fall semester 2027/2028.
Two lessons. First, 15 July is not a safe assumption for a non EU master's applicant. Second, earlier deadlines help the visa: an admission letter in March leaves months for the blocked account and the portal, while one in August may not.

How does uni-assist work, and how long does it take?
Many German universities use uni-assist to check foreign certificates. Some take the whole application through it. Others ask for a VPD, a preliminary review document you submit to the university yourself: TUM, for example, asks master's applicants with a foreign bachelor's to apply on TUMonline and request a uni-assist VPD at the same time. RWTH's Construction Robotics programme takes applications only through RWTHonline. Check each programme page.
For applicants from Pakistan, uni-assist lists:
- your school leaving certificates with subjects and grades (Matric and Intermediate);
- your degree certificate with its overview of subjects and grades, carrying the HEC attestation stamps;
- the minimum passing grade for your degree.
Timing, as stated by uni-assist:
- Apply at least 8 weeks before the deadline. That lets uni-assist ask for missing documents in time.
- Processing usually takes 4 to 6 weeks from when it receives your application. Its current estimate for Asia is 4 to 5 weeks.
- VPD deadlines are yours. uni-assist places the VPD in your My assist account, and you must send it to the university before the university's deadline.
So a 15 July deadline really means submitting to uni-assist by about 20 May, and a 1 March deadline means early January.
The fee is €75 for your first programme and €30 for each additional one in the same semester. Pay only through the uni-assist portal, which issues all payment requests itself.
HEC attestation is now online, but HEC does not publish a processing time, so start in November. Our guide to HEC attestation for study abroad explains the process and fees.
When are the DAAD scholarship deadlines for 2027?
DAAD's EPOS scholarships fund selected development related postgraduate courses in Germany. For 2027/2028, the DAAD scholarship database says:
- deadlines depend on the course you choose;
- you apply directly to the course, and applications sent to DAAD are not forwarded;
- graduates receive €992 a month.
DAAD's official list of EPOS courses for the 2027/2028 intake (dated June 2026) does not print dates. For every course, from Göttingen to TU Dresden and Freiburg, it says to see the course website. Some admit only every two years: Development Management at Bochum, for example, lists its next intake as 2028. If EPOS is your plan, check your course's own page this month.
How much is the blocked account, and when should you open it?
As of 14 October 2026, the German Missions in Pakistan ask for €992 a month, or €11,904 for one year, for all applications since 1 January 2025.
One change to watch: the German Foreign Office links this amount to the BAföG student grant. In August 2026 the German cabinet approved a BAföG reform that would raise the housing allowance from €380 to €440 from the summer semester 2027, and the basic rate from €475 to €503 from the winter semester 2027/28, subject to parliament. No new blocked account figure had been announced by 14 October 2026, so check the Missions' page before you transfer money.
Practical points from the German Missions in Pakistan:
- your signature on the account opening documents must be attested by the Embassy in Islamabad, the Consulate General in Karachi or the Honorary Consul in Lahore, for €25 and by a separate appointment;
- the provider must give the visa section a way to verify the account;
- if your course charges fees, such as the €1,500 per semester that Baden-Württemberg charges non EU students, upload proof of tuition payment with your visa file.
Open and fund the account as soon as you accept an admission. Our guide to what studying in Germany really costs covers tuition, fees and living costs.
When should you apply for the German student visa?
The day your admission letter arrives. Student visa applications from Pakistan go through the Consular Services Portal at digital.diplo.de/studium. You register, upload your documents, and a visa officer screens the file before you receive an appointment.
The German Missions say demand still exceeds capacity, files are handled in the order received, and no processing time is published. They also say no agent or consultant can provide an appointment or an earlier one. Our guide to the Germany student visa appointment from Pakistan explains each portal step and the common causes of delay.
Month by month timeline: October 2026 to October 2027
| Month | What to do |
|---|---|
| October 2026 | Shortlist programmes on DAAD's International Programmes database. Note each deadline and whether it uses uni-assist. Book IELTS or TOEFL. Check any EPOS deadline now |
| November 2026 | Start HEC attestation of your degree and transcripts, and IBCC for Matric and Intermediate if needed. Prepare your CV and motivation letter. Submit to uni-assist by about 20 November for any 15 January deadline |
| December 2026 | Finish applications for January deadlines. Ask referees for letters |
| January 2027 | Stuttgart INFOTECH closes on 15 January. Apply early to TUM Physics by 15 January, with the uni-assist VPD request alongside |
| February to March 2027 | RWTH non EU deadline on 1 March. First admission decisions, such as TUM's early round in mid March |
| April to May 2027 | TUM and Mannheim windows open on 1 April. Mannheim closes on 15 or 31 May, TUM on 31 May. Submit uni-assist files by about 20 May for 15 July deadlines |
| June to July 2027 | Accept your admission, fund the blocked account and get your signature attested. Register on the Consular Services Portal the day your letter arrives |
| August to September 2027 | Attend your visa appointment, pay the €75 fee, and buy travel health insurance valid from your travel date |
| October 2027 | Semester begins. Register your address and apply for your residence permit |
Your passport must be valid for at least one year plus three months when you apply, so renew it early if needed.
Is the summer semester 2027 an alternative?
Only for a few students. The summer semester starts in April, and uni-assist says its deadlines are often 15 January. Many programme windows for summer 2027 have already closed: Stuttgart's INFOTECH summer window ran from 15 May to 15 July, and RWTH's non EU summer date is 1 September.
Some windows are still open. TUM's Physics master's programmes accept summer semester applications from 1 September to 30 November. But with no published visa processing time, an admission in December or January leaves very little room before April. For most Pakistani students, the winter semester 2027/28 is the realistic target.
What if you are starting late?
If you begin in spring 2027, you can still apply for winter 2027/28:
- Target May to July deadlines, such as Mannheim's programmes closing on 31 May or 15 July 2027, and universities that use uni-assist's common 15 July date.
- Count back 8 weeks for any uni-assist deadline, and start HEC attestation immediately.
- Prepare the visa file in parallel, so the blocked account and documents are ready the day your admission arrives.
- Ask about late arrival. The German Missions say a university letter accepting late arrival, or an enrolment letter for the next semester, helps if the semester has already started.
Via Nova's counsellors help Pakistani students shortlist programmes, prepare uni-assist files and check the visa portal upload through our study in Germany service, from our office in Lake City Meadows (Ex State Life), next to DHA Phase 5, Lahore, or online. Admission decisions rest with each university, and visa decisions with the German Missions.
Frequently asked questions
What is the deadline for the winter semester 2027 in Germany?
It depends on the programme. uni-assist says 15 July is common, but some master's programmes close earlier. As listed on 14 October 2026, Stuttgart's INFOTECH closes on 15 January 2027, RWTH's Construction Robotics on 1 March for non EU applicants, TUM's Physics programmes on 31 May, and Mannheim's programmes between 15 May and 15 July.
How long does uni-assist take to process an application?
uni-assist says results usually take 4 to 6 weeks from when it receives your application, with a current estimate of 4 to 5 weeks for Asia. It recommends applying at least 8 weeks before the university's deadline. If you need a VPD, you must send it to the university yourself before that deadline.
When is the DAAD deadline for 2027?
For EPOS scholarships, there is no single date. DAAD says deadlines depend on the course and you apply directly to the course. Its official 2027/2028 list, dated June 2026, refers you to each course website for the deadline, so check your chosen course's own page now.
How much is the blocked account for 2027?
As of 14 October 2026, the German Missions in Pakistan ask for €11,904 a year, or €992 a month. A BAföG reform approved by the German cabinet in August 2026 would raise student grant rates during 2027, and the blocked amount is linked to BAföG, so check the official figure before you transfer.
Can I still apply for the summer semester 2027?
In a few cases. TUM's Physics master's programmes accept summer applications until 30 November 2026, but many other summer windows have closed. The German Missions publish no visa processing time, so a summer start is risky. The winter semester 2027/28 is the realistic target for most Pakistani students.
